How to Measure

1. Choose Your Mode

Toggle between Length (MapPolyline) or Area (MapPolygon) using the segmented picker in the top toolbar.

2. Map vs. Draw

Switch to Draw Mode via the Edit button. In this mode, map gestures are disabled so you can precisely place points. Use Map Mode (Done) to pan and zoom normally.

3. Input Gestures

Quick Tap: Drops a numbered handle.
Long Drag: Creates a free-draw stroke for complex geometry.
Edit: Drag any numbered handle to move a corner, or double-tap a handle to delete it.

App Settings

Access the settings gear to customize your experience:

Units: Toggle between Metric and Imperial. Measurements auto-scale from meters to kilometers or yards to miles.
Show-on-Start: Choose whether the app opens to your last measurement or a clean slate.
Recenter: Use the location button to quickly jump back to your current position.

Privacy

Areal is designed to be completely private. We do not collect or store any user information.

No user accounts or profiles.
No storage of your measurement history on our servers.
All location and map data are processed locally on your device via Apple Maps.
